ISEB AND ISTQB CERTIFICATION AND TRAINING
There are two organisations currently responsible for the training and certification of software testing professionals in the UK.
ISEB is part of the British Computing Society (BCS) and has provided the syllabus and associated certification for software testing professionals in the UK for over six years.
ISTQB was more recently established to promote internationally recognised and co-ordinated certification in software testing. By providing core syllabuses and allowing exam boards, such as ISEB, to provide the certification, ISTQB’s function is to support a single, universally accepted, international qualification scheme.
ISEB and ISTQB previously agreed the standard at Foundation level which results in the ISEB/ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing. SDLC Solutions currently provides training at this level.
Beyond Foundation level, ISEB and ISTQB diverge.
ISEB currently offers an Intermediate Certificate, followed by a Practitioner Certificate which is split into Software Test Management and Software Test Analysis.
ISTQB offers an Advanced Certificate which will be split into Test Manager, Test Analyst and Technical Test Analyst. The syllabus has been published but the exam formats are not yet ready.
The original ISEB Practitioner Certificate is recognised by ISTQB but, as the new ISEB format is not compatible with the structure of the ISTQB Advanced Certification, the current one is not.
In these circumstances, SDLC Solutions is not offering ISEB training beyond Foundation level until an agreed path is established.
