UNIX Introduction (4 days)
This course has been designed for a person who requires a good working knowledge of the UNIX operating system and wants to utilise the benefits of its flexibility and multi-user capabilities.
Course Content
- UNIX in context: its role and origins
- Using UNIX: graphical and command line interfaces
- Managing files 1: structure, security and housekeeping
- Managing files 2: naming conventions, manipulation and navigation commands
- The Shell environment: use and personalisation
- Scripting: writing, use of variables
- The vi Editor: vi, sed and awk
- Accessing UNIX servers: remote server usage and file transfers
- Data control: searching, filtering, extracting and restructuring
- Basic administration: users, groups, housekeeping
Pre-requisites
Experience of using UNIX and familiarity with servers.
